The SC Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare Summer Fellowship Program seeks to develop a network of diverse students interested in working to improve health outcomes in rural South Carolina. Fellows will be given the opportunity to work on projects that promote health equity, enhance the delivery of care, and research trends that impact access to care. The program aims to help support interest in rural health and introduce students to career pathways, including those from rural, underrepresented, or underserved backgrounds. Fellows will gain valuable work experience and participate in mentorship and networking opportunities with some of our state's leading health organizations. The program dates are June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025. Fellows will receive a $2500 stipend for their participation in the program.
This fellowship is an exciting opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the health and wellbeing of rural communities in South Carolina.
What Do Fellows Do?
Fellows will assist Center staff with ongoing programs and research projects, gain insights through networking opportunities with healthcare professionals, participate in rural site visits, and engage in service projects. Each fellow will receive mentorship from experienced staff who will help develop their skills, introduce them to key rural health issues, and guide them in academic and career planning.
The Center will host a comprehensive orientation session to familiarize fellows with its work and offer various "Lunch and Learn" speaker series focused on rural and primary healthcare, as well as personal and professional development. Fellows should expect to commit at least 20 hours per week.
