The SC Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare Summer Fellowship Program seeks to develop a network of diverse students interested in working to improve health outcomes in rural South Carolina. Fellows will be given the opportunity to work on projects that promote health equity, enhance the delivery of care, and research trends that impact access to care.

The program aims to help support interest in rural health and introduce students to career pathways, including those from rural, underrepresented, or underserved backgrounds. Fellows will gain valuable work experience and participate in mentorship and networking opportunities with some of our state's leading health organizations.

The program dates are June 1, 2023 – August 3, 2023. Fellows will receive a $2500 stipend for their participation in the program.

What Do Fellows Do?
The Fellows' day-to-day activities will involve assisting Center staff with their ongoing programs and research projects. Fellows will be assigned a mentor from the Center's senior team who best matches their interests. The mentors will help develop their skills, introduce them to rural health issues, and offer guidance on academic and career goals and opportunities.

The Center will provide an orientation session for the Fellows to introduce them to our work, and we will sponsor a lunch and learn speaker series on rural and primary healthcare. While the Center is located in Columbia, SC, fellows will have the opportunity for placements across the state depending on their location and how their interests align with the host site. Remote opportunities are also available. Selected students should expect to work 20 hours per week.
